TEXT: JEREMIAH 42:7 KJV
[7] Ten days later the Lord gave his reply to Jeremiah.
Discussion
Today, we shall be discussing the grace to wait on the Lord until He speaks. We live in a very fast-paced world where we need to get things done as quickly as possible.
Our Bible text today is about the prophet Jeremiah. The captains of the forces, Johanan the son of Kareah, Jezaniah, Elishah, and the people from the least to the greatest came to him, asking him to pray to God and ask Him to show them the way they should go and what they should do. However, Jeremiah did not simply speak to them based on his experience or his own knowledge. Neither did he allow himself to be pushed around by the influence of people, irrespective of their social status. Instead, he went to God on their behalf, and God did not respond to him until after 10 days.
Brethren, we must never allow ourselves to come under the pressure of people to do anything. Let God give you guidance and show you what to do. Many people have made business mistakes, marriage mistakes, and other mistakes by giving in to the pressure of people or circumstances. Saul bowed to the pressure of the people, and he paid dearly for it when he could not wait for Samuel to make the sacrifice.( 1 Samuel 13: 8- 14)
God wants us to wait on Him and not just come to Him for quick information and then run away. Your staying power determines how much you can receive from God. Therefore, develop your staying power with God especially in fasting and prayer.
Sometimes, it is good to stay, wait on God, and not make any move until you hear from the Lord. Hearing from the Lord is not a luxury or something meant for prophets alone. It is meant for all children of God.
What determines how much of God we know is our ability to stay and wait on the Lord. The longer we wait, the sharper our spiritual antenna becomes, and the more we are able to discern the voice of the Lord.
Declarations:
I receive the grace to stay in the presence of God. I shall not rush out of God’s presence, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
