Today’s devotional focuses on our love for God. The Lord was saying to the church in Ephesus that He knows their works, their labour, and their patience, and that they cannot tolerate evil. However, the Lord saw that they had lost their first love. God cannot be mocked; He knows the state of our hearts and how much we love Him.
The situation of the Ephesian church was that, although they had zeal in many areas, their love for Jesus was no longer there. The Lord is speaking to us through this devotional today to restore our love for Him. Many Christians go to God not because of their love for Him, but because of the good things they want from Him. Some are working for God in church but have lost their love for God. Our work for God should be born out of our love for Him.
How do I know if my love for Jesus is fading away?
1. Your zeal for prayer starts to decline.
2. Your appetite for God’s Word starts to decline.
3. Your desire for fellowship with fellow believers becomes less interesting.
4. Your passion for evangelism begins to decline.
5. Your daily spiritual routine no longer excites you.
The major objective of Satan is to distract Christians. Satan does not mind if a Christian is doing well in all other area, He does not even mind a christian serving in the church as long as the Christian’s love for Jesus has grown cold. God is calling us today to wake up from our spiritual slumber and recharge our spiritual lives.
What do I do if my love for Jesus has grown cold?
1. Recognise that you need help from God.
2. Ask God to help your heart return to Him.
3. Create time for retreat and spiritual renewal.
4. Go and get some fire from people you know are on fire for the Lord. In other words, walk with people who are passionate about the Lord.
5. Don’t stop praying and studying God’s Word until you regain your passion. This is also the way to maintain your passion.
