TEXT: JOHN 20:10–12 KJV
“Then the disciples went away again unto their own home. But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, and seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. ”
Discussion
We shall continue with the story of the visit of Mary, John, and Peter to Jesus’ sepulchre. We discussed yesterday, 4th October, that we must keep moving irrespective of the situation. The three of them reached their destination, but after they saw what they needed to see, Peter and the other disciple left, while Mary stayed behind weeping. The reason Peter and John left Mary all alone there is another discussion for another day. They may not have been gentle enough. They left and went home, leaving Mary there to weep the more.
What we learn from this Bible record is that Mary remained there, weeping and worried about what could have happened to the body of the Master, who had not only saved her but also delivered her from the demons that had tormented her. She remained there while the others left. As she looked into the sepulchre, she saw what the others did not see. She saw two angels dressed in white, sitting where Jesus’ body had been laid, and later saw Jesus standing behind her. This woman waited a little longer and became the first to see Jesus Christ after His resurrection. She saw what the disciples could not wait to see.
Sometimes in life, just enough may not be enough.
The miracle may be just around the corner, but we may give up too soon. We must develop the mentality of adding a little extra to our effort and waiting. We must always tell ourselves, “Let me push a bit more. Let me pray a bit more. Let me look again. Let me check one more time.” Sometimes, that little extra can make a whole lot of difference.
The virgins with the extra oil could see the bridegroom, but those without the extra oil could not. The breakthrough may be in a little more tenacity. Our desperation for a solution to any challenge in life could attract God’s intervention.
We cannot afford to act like Peter and John in this instance. Those angels were there before they arrived, but only the person who waited a little longer saw them. Waiting a little longer may mean different things to different people.
To someone who needs a child, waiting may mean continuing to trust, pray, and remain expectant that God will make you a joyful mother soon.
To someone in debt, waiting may mean praying, trusting, and expecting God to turn your situation around miraculously by showing you what to do or bringing you out of debt by His mighty hand.
To someone struggling to pray and study God’s Word, waiting may mean creating time for a personal retreat.
Whatever situation you might be in today, as you trust a little more and pray a little more, just as Mary’s puzzling situation was resolved and the solution came to her while she was weeping, God shall come through for you too, in Jesus’ name.
Declaration:
As I wait on the Lord this season, God shall come through for me, and I shall testify, in Jesus’ name.
