TEXT: MATTHEW 19:21 KJV
[21] Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
Discussions:
The Bible text today is the response Jesus gave to a young man who asked Him what good thing he needed to do to gain eternal life. Jesus told him to go and sell all that he had and give it to the poor, but the young man could not.
Jesus was not against a prosperous life; He was simply checking where the young man’s heart was. To get to heaven, there are some things we must be willing to let go of. There are things that are very important to us, yet we must be willing to lay them before the Lord. God is not looking for 50% of us; He wants 100% of us. He wants us to be able to surrender all that we have to Him.
Sometimes, what God requires of us may not be convenient, but He still requires it. God has already given us an example of total surrender by giving us Jesus, His only Son, to die for our redemption. Yet we are often not ready to surrender everything to God in return.
Some people can give God their time but not their money. Others can give God money but not their family. We need to come to the point where we understand that all we have has been given to us by God, and He deserves the right to ask for any of it at any time.
It has been proven that no one loses what he surrenders to God, but eventually loses what he keeps away from God (John 12:25). It is wisdom to release everything we have to God and allow Him to have total control over all that we possess.
As we meditate on today’s devotional, we must be ready to give our all to the Lord. We must be willing to empty ourselves before Him. Our lives are not our own; we belong to the Lord. Therefore, we must make Him our priority in all our endeavours, in Jesus’ name.
Declarations:
I surrender all to the Lord today, in Jesus’ name.
