TEXT: JEREMIAH 23:29 NLT
[29] Does not my word burn like fire?” says the Lord. “Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes a rock to pieces?
Discussion
Today’s devotional is also focused on God’s Word being compared to a hammer. We know that a hammer helps in making things. We use a hammer to nail, and we also use it for the purpose of demolition. There are several things the Bible compares the Word of God to. Hebrews 4:12 compares the Word of God to a two-edged sword; that is, it cuts on every side.
Sometimes, the truth of God’s Word can be very uncomfortable, but the truth is the truth. God’s Word can break a stony heart. We have heard testimonies of very stubborn people who gave their lives to Jesus Christ after hearing God’s Word, which broke their stubbornness, and they have now become calm and patient and serving Jesus Christ with passion. The Apostle Paul is an example of such a person.
When you realize that there are stubborn temptations that are constantly bringing you down spiritually, use the Word of God as a hammer to bring them down. One of the best things a believer can do for themselves is to expose themselves to the power of God’s Word. You can keep God’s Word playing around you, even as you go about your daily activities.
There are some situations that could be very difficult to overcome and may seem too strong for us to handle. When we apply God’s Word as a hammer against such situations, they shall surely give way.
The effect of a hammer can be seen more clearly when it is constantly hitting the same spot. As you keep hitting it, the effect may not be seen immediately, but when you keep hitting it consistently and relentlessly, it will eventually break.
Let us not give up. We are not permitted to remain silent in the face of any difficult situation. The Word of God in our mouths is like a mighty hammer. Keep speaking God’s Word to the difficult situation, and very soon, you shall have a testimony in Jesus’ name.
Declarations:
God’s Word in my mouth is like a mighty hammer. As I launch God’s Word against the Goliaths of my life, they shall surely fall before me, in Jesus’ name.
