[10] So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, “If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
[12] So Elijah answered and said to them, “If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.
Discussions:
Today’s devotional is a story about a man of God called Elijah. Elijah showed great confidence in the God of heaven. He demonstrated the depth of his relationship with God by calling down fire to consume his enemies.
It is one thing to have the ability to call down fire; it is another thing to know that you have the ability.
Many Christians tolerate negativity simply because they do not know who they are in Christ. Awareness of who we are in Christ is very important. Knowing who you are in God is not pride. God wants us to be aware of His presence around us so that we can destroy the works of darkness around us.
“A man that is in honour, and understandeth not, is like the beasts that perish” (Psalm 49:20). This simply means that if a predator thinks he is prey, he will surely perish in the hands of his prey.
When Elijah said, “If I be a man of God,” he was simply putting his relationship with God on the line. It is important to note that to have such audacity, a person must be sure of his walk with God, because calling down fire confidently does not necessarily mean that fire will fall. Elijah’s confidence was not baseless. He had built a Father-and-son relationship with God long before that day.
Practical Steps
1. Be a child of God. (Matthew 6:9)
2. Always stay in touch with your Heavenly Father to know His mind at every given time. (Matthew 14:23)
3. Speak boldly to any unwanted situation and do not stop speaking until you see the situation turn around. (Mark 11:23)
4. Always keep the fire burning within you by praying continually, especially in the Holy Spirit. (1 Thessalonians 5:17)
Declaration:
I carry the fire of the Holy Ghost in my bones. Let the fire fall and roast the agents of darkness making my life a project.
