[12] Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

Today’s devotional focuses on the most important part of our spiritual being—the heart. The heart speaks to God more than we can ever imagine. Jesus said that people that it is possible to commit adultery in the hearts even without committing adultery physically (Matthew 5:28). This means that our heart is a stage that is so open to God.
There are many Christians with polluted hearts. Their hearts have been filled with so much unspeakable immorality and yet still speaks in tongues.
As believers, we need the grace to be able to discern the heart behind every action of people. Some people might laugh with you now while expecting your downfall in their hearts. Some can even go as far as giving you gifts while their hearts might not wish you well. God sees the heart of every individual. He knows not only our present thoughts but also our future thoughts (Psalm 139:2).
Our Bible text today is about Sarah. When she heard that she was going to have a son at her old age, she laughed in her heart, and the Lord heard her.
The reason our heart is important is because it is a stage where God chooses to abide in us, and we cannot afford to allow any form of corruption into our hearts. Similarly, it is advisable to have strict rules regarding how we protect our hearts against corruption. For example, we should be careful about the videos we watch, the words we hear, and the associations we keep.
The worship of God is more about the heart (John 4:24) than the lifting of our physical hands. God said that worship must be in spirit and truth, not a show of outward appearance alone.
The Lord saw the heart of Lucifer from afar and dealt with him straight away.
Isaiah 14:13 says:
“For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north.”
The above text did not say that Lucifer had already done the things he thought in his heart. His heart was seen and known by the Lord, and God dealt with him.
A person cannot claim to be a child of God and yet have an evil heart. In everything we do, let us guard our hearts with all diligence. If the heart is corrupt, it cannot hear God’s voice. A corrupt heart cannot host God.
Some little things that creep into the heart of a believer are offences, envy, bitterness, malice, etc. These and many more can corrupt the heart.
Declarations:
I shall set the stage of my heart for God’s dwelling. I shall not allow corruption into my heart, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
