[13] I had fainted, Unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

Today’s devotional is to open our eyes to the goodness of God that is all around us, irrespective of the challenges of life we might be facing.
I heard this phrase from Bishop David Oyedepo, founder of Living Faith Church, which I would like us to meditate on throughout today:
“If you have lost something, it is because of God that you have not lost everything.”
The enemy of our souls is not nice. The thief comes to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10). You can see the process: he steals first and will not stop there; he kills the person he stole from and will not stop there, but goes further to destroy, so that there will not be any chance for restoration. Imagine how wicked the devil is.
But if it had not been for the goodness of God, when men rose up against us, they would have swallowed us up alive; when their wrath was kindled against us, the waters would have overwhelmed us. But thanks be to God, who causes us to triumph always (Psalm 124; 2 Corinthians 2:14).
The fact that we are alive today is a sign that we have experienced the goodness of God. There are many battles of life that, honestly speaking, are beyond our capacity, both spiritually and physically. But somehow, we came out of those situations because the goodness of God delivers us.
Our Bible text today was a prayer from David. He said that his heart would have fainted, but the thing that kept him going was his belief that he would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living and he saw it.
When a man sees God’s goodness, it looks as though he never went through any difficult times. God’s goodness delivers us from shame; God’s goodness delivers us from sickness; and God’s goodness delivers us from the hand of the wicked.
God’s goodness remembers that we are human and does not deal with us according to our sins, nor reward us according to our iniquities (Psalm 103).
To experience God’s goodness simply means seeing the good side of God even in the difficult and precarious situations of life. There is someone reading this devotional today who shall experience the goodness of God in a way they have never experienced before, in Jesus’ name.
Three things to do always to experience God’s goodness:
1. Rejoice evermore. — 1 Thessalonians 5:16
2. Pray without ceasing. — 1 Thessalonians 5:17
3. In everything, give thanks. — 1 Thessalonians 5:18
