TEXT: PSALM 70:5 KJV
[5] But I am poor and needy; Make haste unto me, O God: Thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.
Discussion
Today’s devotional focuses on ways we relate to God when we are burdened in the place of prayer.
The fact that we are Christians does not mean challenges will not come our way. However, when they come, we must know how to speak to God and tell Him exactly how we feel about the situation.
Our Bible text today was a prayer from David to God. David did not go to God with the mentality of, “Let the weak say, ‘I am strong.’” He went to God expressing exactly how he felt. God knows exactly how we feel, and He wants us to come to Him just as we are.
Many Christians sometimes get overly spiritual when speaking to God, making declarations in the presence of God that are totally contrary to how they feel. There is no point in flexing our muscles when a capable God is right there with us. For example, if you are praying about healing, you can go to God and tell Him the exact place where you are feeling pain. You can even speak to Him when your faith is going down. Our God is a relatable God. We can speak to Him and hear Him speak back to us.
Jesus gave us an example at Gethsemane when He was grieved by the enormous task ahead of Him. He told God exactly how He felt. It was so intense that the Bible records that the sweat from His body was like drops of blood until God sent an angel to strengthen Him (Luke 22:42–44). When He was burdened, He expressed Himself to the Father. If Jesus did not pretend before God, there is no reason for us to pretend before God. We don’t pretend that all is well before God when all is not well.
You can apply faith before men through your positive declarations and show strong faith even when you are weak. But when you get into the presence of the Lord, please feel free to tell Him that you are struggling if you are. If God asks you, “How are you?” don’t say you are fine when you are not. He already knows that you are not fine.
Another important thing to note is that social media is not where you should go to release your burdens first. Go to God first. Release your burdens to Him and hear Him tell you what to do. Let Him strengthen you and show you what to do concerning every burden on your heart.
God is truly a burden bearer. When situations come your way that seem so hopeless, God is able to turn things around if you can just tell Him how you feel. I have seen God come through for me over and over again, and I know He shall come through for you too. Just go to God and tell Him how you feel. He shall come through for you as you never let Him go until you see His salvation. I shall hear your testimony.
Declarations:
I shall never let Him go until I see His saving grace manifested in my life. I refuse to pretend before my God. There is nothing to hide, Lord.
