TEXT: JOHN 9:3 KJV
[3] Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Discussions:
The blind man in today’s story had lived in darkness from birth. He was born blind. This man was in that condition because God intended to use him as a spotlight for the manifestation of His glory through his life. It was neither his sin nor the sin of his parents that led to his condition.
We go through situations in life that seem unexplainable. We often wonder why certain things happen. How could we explain a child being born blind only so that, many years later, Jesus would pass by and make him a vessel for the manifestation of God’s power?
The blind man had been designed to be part of Jesus’ story from birth, without his permission. God did not need his approval to make him one of the characters in the scene of Jesus’ manifestation on earth. God chooses to demonstrate His sovereignty in ways that often surpass human understanding.
Job’s story in the Bible is another example. God wanted to prove that Job was indeed a righteous man, and He allowed him to go through trials that eventually became a platform for God’s manifestation.
These stories remind us of the sovereignty of God over all His creation. The blind man in our Bible passage today was positioned for Jesus to heal him. His birth was not an accident; his condition was orchestrated by God. His situation became part of Jesus’ earthly ministry. We could say that God brought him into the world without sight so that Jesus might reveal the works of God through him.
There are some lessons we can draw from this story that will help us as we face the various situations of life:
1. Our lives are planned by God.
2. God does not necessarily need our approval to demonstrate His sovereignty.
3. God is aware of every situation we face. We do not pray because He is unaware of our circumstances. Rather, He asks us to pray so that we may commune with Him and understand His plans concerning every situation.
4. A setup for God’s manifestation may not be easy, but His grace is available for every situation; we simply need to rely on that grace.
We know that all things work together for the good of those who are in Christ Jesus. Today’s devotional is meant to encourage anyone who is struggling to make sense of a situation in life. God is surely with you, and He has everything planned out for His glory to be revealed.
I shall surely hear the testimony of God’s manifestation in your life, in Jesus’ name.
Declaration:
I know that God is working all things together for my good. Though I may not understand everything now, God’s manifestation in my life will prove that He is surely with me.
