TEXT: JEREMIAH 9:23 NKJV
[23] Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
Discussion
Today’s devotional focuses on giving glory to God rather than to our own abilities and strength. There is always the temptation for us, as humans, to think that our achievements and everything we do are the result of our own strength. We often forget that God is the One working in us, enabling us to do everything that is good and according to His will.
The Bible text for today says that the wise should not glory in their wisdom, neither should the mighty glory in their might, nor the rich in their riches. God wants us to see Him as our everything, and all glory should be returned to Him for every achievement we attain. Any attempt to believe that we accomplished anything by our own strength is taking God’s glory, and that is very dangerous.
It is pride to glory in our wisdom, might, or wealth.
The Bible says that pride goes before destruction. There are many instances in Scripture where pride led to people’s downfall. King Nebuchadnezzar was driven into the wilderness to live like a beast because he failed to give God the glory.
Our major objective today is to emphasize the importance of allowing God to receive the glory for everything He does through us and for us.
When we give glory to God:
1. We give God the opportunity to prove Himself and display His greatness beyond our comprehension.
2. We are assured of victory and security because God fights our battles when we give Him the glory.
3. We receive blessings for giving God the glory. (1 Samuel 2:30).
The latter part of the passage tells us that our glory should be in knowing the Lord. It is evident that God does not want anyone to share His glory. He likes to take stage because He owns the stage.
Declarations:
I shall give God all the glory for everything He does through me and for me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
