TEXT: PROVERBS 22:5 KJV
“Thorns and snares are in the way of the froward: He that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.”
Discussion
Today, we shall be looking at the battle of the soul. Our Bible text explains that there are thorns and snares in the way, but if we keep our souls, we shall not become victims of these snares. Therefore, it is important to keep our souls safe.
Everything seems to be after our souls. The level of distraction these days is totally out of hand. Have you ever stopped to realize how easily you get distracted when you pick up your phone to do something, only to realize that you are doing something completely different from what you originally intended to do on your phone?
Everything around us is competing for our attention. Even the videos on our social media platforms are tailored by algorithms based on our activities and interests. This means that some people and organizations make more money by successfully manipulating our attention, minds, and souls.
Our Scripture today warns us to keep our souls so that we do not fall into thorns and snares. The devil is no longer distracting Christians only with bad things, but also with good things that are not right for us at a particular time.
The greatest asset we have in life is our mind. We have a spirit and a soul living inside our bodies. A healthy spiritual life, a healthy mind, and a healthy physical body are all very important. Any attempt to trap our soul is an attack on our mental and spiritual well-being. Therefore, our souls must be guarded and protected with all diligence. We do not owe anyone an explanation for any method we put in place to protect our souls.
Therefore, we need to understand that, no matter how much we try to keep our souls, we are still human and we are frail. We need God to help us keep our souls.
There are responsibilities on our part, though:
1. Study God’s Word regularly:
If you don’t want to become a victim of distractions, feed your soul with God’s Word. A starved soul will become vulnerable to traps.
2. Pray in the Spirit regularly:
If you pray constantly in the Spirit, you keep your spirit active. When your spirit is active, your soul will also be strengthened.
Declaration:
I shall give no room to distractions, in Jesus’ name. I shall not fall into the traps and snares set against my soul, in Jesus’ name.
