TEXT: JOHN 9:39 NKJV
[39] And Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.”
Discussion
Our discussion today is about the account of the blind man whom Jesus healed. Jesus said that He came so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind.
The mission of Jesus is to help those who are blind. There is more to God than what we see physically. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth. It is those who can perceive the revelation of God who can truly worship Him. Jesus came to reveal God the Father to us; that is, He brought light through God’s Word so that we may be delivered from our spiritual blindness. However, those who believe they already have sight and refuse to acknowledge their blindness before God will remain blind.
The Pharisees thought they could see, but they were spiritually blind. Unfortunately, Jesus cannot help those who are blind yet claim to see. Jesus came to make known to us what we could never have known on our own.
We must be available for God to touch our eyes so that we can truly see. The Pharisees had made up their minds not to see, and no matter what Jesus did or said, they refused to believe.
This text shows us that it takes willingness and humility to know God. If we desire God, He reveals Himself to those who are willing and ready to know Him. However, those who think they already know and come with a hardened heart become even more confused.
The posture of our hearts is very important. It is okay not to know, provided we are willing to learn. What is not okay is to have a hardened heart that is unwilling to know. Someone once defined a fool as a person who does not know and does not know that he does not know, while a wise person is one who does not know but knows that he does not know.
Brethren, as we humble our hearts before the Lord, may He open our eyes to see and know more of Him, in Jesus’ name.
Declarations:
I shall not be blind in Jesus’ name. My spiritual sight shall be sharp in Jesus’ name. The Lord will continually open my eyes to see His truth and walk in His light, in Jesus’ name.
