TEXT: JEREMIAH 20:11 KJV
[28] Then the man of God went to the king of Israel and said, “This is what the Lord says: The Arameans have said, ‘The Lord is a god of the hills and not of the plains.’ So I will defeat this vast army for you. Then you will know that I am the Lord.”
Discussion
I believe there is someone reading this devotional today who needs to hear that the Lord is with him or her. Our Bible text today explains the operation of the Lord when He is with a man. As children of God, we must have the mentality that God is with us.
This means that, as the Lord is with us, our persecutors will stumble and will not prevail. If God says, “I am with you,” that is all we need from God.
Moses knew the importance of God’s presence; that was why he said, “If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence” (Exodus 33:15). Moses knew that as long as the Lord was with them, there was no power in heaven, on the earth, or under the earth that could conquer them (Philippians 2:9).
One of the reasons we become afraid of circumstances, situations, or the future is because we either do not know the Lord or are not sure that the Lord we know is with us.
If the Lord is with you, then you are safe. Who is the Lord? The Lord is strong and mighty; the Lord is mighty in battle. He is the Lord of hosts (Psalm 24:7–10), the mighty Lord who owns the heavens and the earth (Psalm 24:1). If God is with you, no man can bring you down. If God blesses you, no man can curse you. If God is with you, no weapon formed against you shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Our greatest desire as children of God should be to be in God’s presence. The Bible text today says that our persecutors will fail and be thoroughly disgraced, and their dishonour will never be forgotten.
There is someone reading this today to whom God is saying, “Don’t be afraid, I am with you, and you shall not be disgraced.” Instead, your adversaries shall be disgraced.

[11] But the Lord stands beside me like a great warrior. Before him my persecutors will stumble. They cannot defeat me. They will fail and be thoroughly humiliated. Their dishonor will never be forgotten.
