TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 5:1 NKJV
It is actually reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and such sexual immorality as is not even named among the Gentiles—that a man has his father’s wife!

Today’s devotional focus may seem unusual, but I believe it will help us as we focus on our spiritual growth and journey.
Hospital-acquired infections are infections that patients contract while receiving treatment for other conditions in healthcare settings.
Similarly, church-acquired infections are sins that enter people’s lives through the church while they are still seeking deliverance from the weaknesses they already have. Some people fall into even more serious sin after entering the church as a result of such “infections.”
Today’s scripture text is an extract from Paul’s letter to the church in Corinth. They had become polluted with a kind of immorality that was not even found among unbelievers. The question is: what happens if a new believer joins such a gathering? He or she may end up worse than when they were an unbeliever.
The church is like a hospital where everyone comes with different spiritual needs, strengths, and weaknesses. You cannot lower your guard simply because you are in church; otherwise, you may keep attending church yet remain spiritually weak. This is one reason why the church must carry enough spiritual “fire” to overcome persistent weaknesses within it.
My Responsibilities
1. Make sure you are in a church that teaches the truth of the gospel.
2. Do not go to church spiritually empty. Go to be strengthened, not as your only source of spiritual nourishment.
3. Watch and pray—do not lower your guard just because you are in church. Remain vigilant.
4. Periodically evaluate yourself according to Scripture and create time for personal retreat when needed.
5. Stay focused on your purpose for attending church while mingling with others. Fellowship is good, but not at the expense of your spiritual well-being.
6. Seek a Holy Spirit-led way to address any “infection” you observe that could harm others. Silence can make others vulnerable.
7. Pray for your church and its leadership.
Declarations:
The gates of hell shall not prevail over the church of Jesus christ. I shall not fall in Jesus name.
