BEWARE OF TRAPS

BEWARE OF TRAPS

TEXT: JEREMIAH 5:26 KJV

“For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men. ”

Discussion

Today’s devotional is a very deep topic that needs to be carefully thought through as we live our lives daily.

Our Bible text today is the word God spoke to the prophet Jeremiah concerning His own people. God said that among His people were wicked men who lay in wait and set traps to ensnare others. They set traps, and they catch nothing else but men. God, have mercy on us. We shall not go into detail about the wicked among God’s people; perhaps that can be a topic for another day.

Our focus today is to understand the purpose of the traps set by men so that we can avoid them. The world is like a very big farm with so many traps—traps set by different people and systems. The Bible text today even says that some of God’s people have allowed the devil into their hearts to set snares and traps.

We can’t afford to live careless lives in this world, ladies and gentlemen, because there are some traps that, once they catch their victims, only God can set them free. Little wonder David said, “He delivered me from those who were too strong for me” (Psalm 18:17).

Let us use a fisherman’s experience as an example. A fisherman has a rod, a line, a hook, and a worm. All the equipment is important, but the worm is the major object used to attract the attention of the fish. The equipment represents the system, but the worm is the bait. The purpose of the worm is to make the fish enter into trouble by its own decision. The fish makes the decision by itself.
No matter what system the fisherman puts in place, the worm must be there because that is what will attract the fish. What the fish likes has now become the means of its destruction.

The objective of the fisherman is to remove the fish from the place God naturally created it to be (in water) and put it in a place God never ordained for it to be (the land). The fish makes the decision itself and is eventually left to die.

The only purpose of a trap is to make its victim enter into trouble unknowingly and by their own decision.

What if the fish saw the hook and the line and was aware that the worm was a bait? Its decision would have been different. The fisherman would have toiled for nothing.

Every trap set for us and our household this season shall not prosper, in Jesus’ name.
What was placed before the fish was what the fish liked, not what it disliked.
We must beware of traps set for us. Tb3 Some may be traps designed to catch us through our words.

Three Important Things to Take Note Of:
1. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide your steps — John 16:13.
2. Don’t take steps in haste; seek knowledge — Proverbs 19:2.
3. Pray about everything — Philippians 4:6.

Declarations:

I shall not fall into the trap of the wicked. The Lord shall guide my steps, and I shall not make haste outside God’s will for my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
