THE GOOD MAN

TEXT: MARK 14:14 NKJV

[14] And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

Discussion

Today’s devotional focuses on how we do good to others. God sees every act of kindness we show to another person. Jesus was about to have His last meal, and through the Spirit, He knew the good man in that city. He sent two of His disciples into the city to locate this good man’s house. The Bible records that the man had already prepared a large, well-furnished upper room for the event. God knows the heart of everyone, and He is searching for people who are willing and ready to host Him.

Abraham received the answer to his prayer by hosting angels (Genesis 18). Doing good to others, especially to those of the household of faith (Galatians 6:10), may be what God is waiting for before He entrusts us with greater responsibilities in His kingdom. The name of the good man in today’s Bible passage was not mentioned, but his act of kindness and godly character will never be forgotten.

Believers must take care of themselves while also showing kindness to those who come their way. Hebrews 13:2 says, “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels.” God takes kindness toward our fellow human beings very seriously, and we, as believers, must do the same.

Jesus also gave the parable of the Good Samaritan in Luke 10:25–37 to teach us the importance of compassion and mercy.

It is important to note that we are not only to meet people’s physical needs but also their spiritual and emotional needs as God gives us the grace. Joseph met the emotional needs of his fellow prisoners by noticing their sad countenances and helping them through the interpretation of their dreams. Little did Joseph know that his own deliverance was connected to that act of compassion.

As we show kindness to people, we must also be concerned about their souls. As God gives us opportunities to minister to their physical needs, we should remember to tell them about eternity i.e life after death.

Declarations:

I shall do good to all people in Jesus’ name. I receive the grace to be kind to others.
