GOOD FIGHT OF FAITH

TEXT: 1 TIMOTHY 6:12 NKJV

[12] Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.

Discussion

Our devotional today is a reminder that we are all in a fight. Every believer is engaged in a spiritual battle. We fight against spiritual wickedness, as the Bible says in Ephesians 6:12:

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

We also fight against the flesh within us. Technically speaking, we are all wrestling. Today, we are focusing on the fight against the flesh.

The fight against the flesh is the battle we engage in as we strive to live righteously. The Apostle Paul acknowledged this struggle in Romans 7:15–16, explaining that he sometimes found himself doing the very things he hated. Jesus Himself had to face temptation when Satan came to test Him (Matthew 4:1–11).

Brethren, every human being must fight to remain steadfast in God, and we know for a fact that God’s grace is available to help us live righteously (2 Corinthians 9:8). No matter your level of anointing or spiritual endowment, the devil will always try to test you by attacking the areas where your flesh is vulnerable.

For some people, the fight may be a bad habit they are struggling to overcome even after giving their lives to Christ. For others, the battle may be repeatedly falling back into sin. Some may find their prayer life under attack, while others struggle with reading the Bible consistently.
No matter the nature of the fight, a fight is still a fight, and Satan is not ready to give up easily. We, too, must make up our minds that we will never give up. Remember, there is no turning back in this battle. Jesus has already given us victory, and we must continue to fight until that victory is fully manifested in our lives.

Practical Steps During the Fight
1. Do the opposite of what the devil wants you to do. If Satan wants you to be sad, choose joy. If he wants you to be discouraged, encourage yourself in the Lord.
2. Keep God’s Word close to you. Write down Scriptures, memorize them, and meditate on them so that when the battle begins, you will have the Word of God to respond to the devil.
3. Avoid anything that triggers the struggle. For example, if alcohol is your weakness, avoid friends or environments that encourage drinking until you have gained sufficient mastery through God’s grace.
4. Speak to the issue with authority. For example, if spiritual slumber is the issue, you can declare, “I take authority over every spirit of spiritual slumber in the name of Jesus.”
5. Avoid every form of distraction.

It is important to note that the Holy Spirit helps us in this fight. We do not have the strength on our own to overcome the old serpent. Therefore, we must continually depend on the Holy Spirit and ask Him for help.

I shall hear your testimony, in Jesus’ name.

Declarations:

I shall overcome because Jesus has already given me victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
