REVIVAL

TEXT: EPHESIANS 5:14 NKJV

[14] Therefore He says: “Awake, you who sleep, Arise from the dead, And Christ will give you light.”

Discussion

Revival simply means waking up from a state of inactivity to a state of alertness. It also means waking up from a state of spiritual insensitivity to a state of spiritual sensitivity.

Our text today admonishes us to wake up from the state of Spiritual slumber or death. God is saying to someone reading this devotional today that the sprirtual slumber is enough.

During revival, the Holy Spirit becomes the major player. There is no revival without the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who wakes us up from our spiritual slumber and tiredness. We are quickened by the Holy Spirit.

Jesus took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee to Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36–45) so that they could join Him in prayer for one hour, but they could not because they fell asleep. They could not keep their eyes open even though they loved Jesus. They could not pray with Him because their spirit was weak, even though their flesh was willing.

If prayer is difficult for you, you need revival. If you are struggling to worship in spirit and in truth, you need revival. If the Word of God no longer excites you, you need revival.

A believer should be on fire and spiritually alert, even while asleep. When the Holy Spirit came upon Peter and the other disciples in Acts 2, they were revived, and boldness and utterance came upon them through the Holy Spirit.

Many Christians are under the torment of the enemy today, not because they do not love Jesus, but because their spirits need to be revived by the Holy Spirit. It is not God’s will for a believer to be bullied, harassed, or tormented by the devil in dreams, waking up in fear after being chased by evil spirits. Our spirits need to be revived, and today shall be the day of our revival, in Jesus’ name.
