BLESSED ARE THE MERCIFUL

 TEXT: MATTHEW 5:7

[7] Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.

 Discussions:

Today’s devotional focuses on ways to obtain the mercy of God. Jesus said that one sure way to obtain mercy is to be merciful. This means that if you need God to meet your financial needs, you should help meet someone else’s financial needs with the little you have. There is a connection between what you need and what you give.

Mercy is something we do not deserve. However, we can attract God’s mercy upon our lives by showing mercy to others. There are many people around us who need help, and God is counting on us to help them. How compassionate are you when you hear about a neighbour in trouble?
What about showing mercy to our enemies? God wants us to show mercy to everyone, whether friend or foe.

However, we must not make ourselves vulnerable. If an enemy is after your life, wisdom must be applied. For example, if someone intentionally poisoned your food and, by God’s mercy, you were prevented from eating it, but a dog ate the food and died, should you forgive that person? Yes, but wisdom requires that you distance yourself from such a person.

Today’s devotional also aims to draw a line between forgiveness and vulnerability. Show mercy, but do not open the door to Satan or the devil in the name of mercy. Show mercy, but remain sensitive to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Declaration:

I shall obtain mercy from the Lord as I show mercy others in Jesus name.
