TEXT: ISAIAH 38:21 KJV
[21] For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaister upon the boil, and he shall recover.
Discussions:
Hezekiah was sick, but he cried out to the Lord, and God showed him mercy. This chapter gives us details about the nature of his sickness and how God intervened after he prayed. There are many lessons to learn from this chapter, but we will focus on the way God healed Hezekiah.
The chapter gives us a clue that Hezekiah’s sickness was a boil, which might have been diagnosed as something else in our day. The Bible did not specifies where he had the boil, which I would describe as a growth somewhere in the body. When God answered his prayer, He gave him instructions on what to do to be healed. He said to take a lump of figs and lay it as a plaster upon the boil, and he recovered.
God can heal without using the fig tree, but He chose to show us one of the many ways He can heal. He can heal by commanding the spirit behind the sickness to leave, or by using medication, or even through unlikely means. What is important is our faith in God, not the methods He chooses to use. It would be unwise for King Hezekiah to put his trust on the fig tree after his healing instead of worshiping and trusting in God.
Christians must be sensitive to God’s instructions. Hezekiah’s deliverance was tied to the fig tree, which was easy to obtain, but he did not know this until God spoke to him through His prophet. God used something unlikely to heal a serious health condition. In my opinion, this was God giving him a solution to that particular incurable sickness at that time.
The solution to every health issue has already been provided by God; all we need is for Him to open our eyes to it. When situations arise that seem to have no way out, remember that there are many possible solutions, you only need God to open your eyes to one of them and follow His instruction.
Declaration:
I shall hear and do what the Lord need me do to obtain my deliverance in Jesus name. As I give God glory He shall take sickness away from my dwelling in Jesus name.
