TEXT: ISAIAH 38:1–5 KJV
[1] In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live. [2] Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, [3] and said, Remember now, O LORD, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore. [4] Then came the word of the LORD to Isaiah, saying, [5] Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the LORD, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.
Discussions:
Today’s devotion is targeted on addressing verdicts and whatever report that either is by God or from the devil.
A bit of study of the life of King Hezekiah shows that he does not just take things as what will be will be. When Sennacherib, the king of Assyria, sent him a letter ( “threat note”), Hezekiah, though afraid, never kept quiet. He contacted the prophet, rent his clothes, and prayed. He spread the letter before the Lord (2 Kgs 19:14–15; Isa 37:1, 14–15).
Then God moved and an angel of the Lord came down and smote 185,000 soldiers in one night to teach Sennacherib a lesson. King Hezekiah already knew that God could move any situation and reverse any verdict by experience. So when the report came that he would die in the bible text for today he simply applied the same principle. He went to God and made his petition.
Quietness when destiny is to be determined is a very bad idea. He petitioned his case before God and God reversed His own verdict. If God could reverse His own verdict because a man petitioned his case well before God, how much more that of the devil?
If any report is brought to you, don’t just take it like that, go to God and make your case. Spiritual things are legalities in nature.
Practical Steps:
1. Humble yourself before God
2. Run to your altar (you must have a functioning one): This is where and how you meet with your God consistently.
3. Make your case clear before the Lord—tell God why things must change; use His word( Ish 55:11)
I shall hear your testimonies soon in Jesus’ name
Declarations:
I reverse any negative verdict against my life in Jesus name. Evil verdict cancelled in the name of Jesus. The word of God told me that the blood of Jesus blot out handwriting of ordinances that was against me. Therefore, every negative write up against me is cancelled in Jesus’ name.
