TEXT: ACTS 6:3 NKJV
Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
Discussions:
The devotional today focuses on one of the qualities the early Church looked for when appointing people to serve God in leadership roles. As good as it is for people to work in God’s vineyard, not everyone is qualified to take on every responsibility.
We shall be looking at each of these qualities, as stated in the scripture above, over the next few days. Having an honest report does not necessarily mean someone who has never sinned. It simply refers to people who may have had issues or sinned in the past but have turned a new leaf, and it is evident that they are regenerated.
The most dangerous people to place in positions of leadership over God’s people are those with a dead conscience , people who have mastered the art of covering their sins and pretending to be saints. Sin is bad; covering sin is worse because it can lead to a curse (Proverbs 28:13).
Having an honest report means that others can testify to a person’s integrity. Even if mistakes happen in our walk with God which we do not pray for, we should not cover them. Instead, let us ask God for help and restoration. We should speak to trusted spiritual leaders, mentors, or friends and find ways to make amends.
May the Lord help us all, in Jesus’ name.
Declarations:
I shall not fall, in Jesus’ name, and Satan shall not find any hiding place in my life, in Jesus’ name.
