“But now bring me a musician.” Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him.
Discussion
Our Bible text today tells us that praising God can bring down His hand upon our lives. Therefore, the praise of God should never depart from our mouths.
Praising God is expressing to Him the greatness, majesty, and awesomeness that we know about Him. Although the angels worship God continually, the Bible says that God inhabits the praises of His people.
Praising God ushers in His presence, especially when we gather together to worship Him. It brings down the manifestation of the Almighty, making His miraculous hand and mighty works evident among His people. Our praise should come from the depths of our hearts if we desire to experience His divine presence and power.
Our Bible text tells us that as the musician played, the hand of the Lord came upon Elisha. This shows how praising God with musical instruments can create an atmosphere that welcomes the presence of the immortal God. Sounds can invite the presence of the King of kings, whether they come from musical instruments, our mouths, our hands, or our feet. Such expressions of heartfelt praise can bring down the hand of God.
Therefore, we should praise God by offering Him heartfelt sounds of worship. Moreover, our praises confuse the devil and glorify God.
Ways of Creating Sounds in Worship
1. Creating sound with instruments: The vessel (the person) playing the instrument is very important. If the person’s life is given over to the works of the flesh, it can hinder the manifestation of God’s presence in the gathering. (Psalm 150:4)
2. Creating sound with our mouths: The children of Israel shouted, and the walls of Jericho fell. Their shout brought down the hand of God. (Psalm 47:1; Hebrews 13:15)
3. Creating sound with our hands: (Psalm 47:1) We praise God by clapping our hands. Even a little child can praise God simply by clapping. You do not need to learn musical notes to do this. Your clap can bring down the hand of God.
4. Creating sound with our feet: This is when we dance before the Lord. Dancing creates joyful sounds, and God delights in seeing His people dance before Him in praise. (Psalm 149:3)
Declarations:
I shall praise the Lord with my songs, my hands, my feet, and my timbrel. I will continually offer Him the sacrifice of praise, and His presence shall abide with me always. Amen.
