TEXT: MATTHEW 26:41
Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Discussions:
The text above was spoken by Jesus to His disciples when they could not sense what was about to happen. Every Christian are to be watchful and prayerful at the same time. We must know what the Lord is saying and take action immediately.
It is not reasonable to expose a bullet proof door to bullets all the time because the bullet proof door gives some protection from bullets. It is better to avoid bullets on the door than exposing the door to bullets all the time. As Christians, because we have Christ in us does not mean we should be careless. The carefulness here does not have anything to do with fear. It simply means knowing how to behave, speak and act to avoid unnecessary battles of life.
There are many instances in the Bible where watchfulness preserved lives. The Lord revealed to Joseph (father of Jesus) to take Jesus to Egypt when Herod wanted to kill baby Jesus (Matt 2:13). Joseph did not say Jesus is not like every other child and therefore not take steps. He moved immediately. If Joseph had delayed, Jesus would have been left in danger.
We need to be sensitive enough to know what God is saying at every given time. The same God who told Joseph to run later asked him to return. (Matt 2:19).
Our watchfulness simply depends on how obedient we are to God’s instruction. Instead of using our own calculation, we should trust the Lord for His divine instruction to navigate this wicked world. (Psalm 14:20)
Declaration:
I shall not be a careless Christian in Jesus’ name Amen.
