TEXT: JOHN 1:12 NKJV

Discussion
Today’s devotional focuses on who we are to God. Today’s Bible text says that “as many as received Him, to them He gave the power to become the sons of God.” This passage is very interesting because it does not simply say that everyone who believes has automatically become a child of God.
The first step is to receive Jesus Christ into our hearts as the Lord of our lives. We must receive Jesus, not merely know about Him. Jesus must dwell in our hearts.
Many people know about Jesus and go to church, yet they have not truly received Him into their hearts. To those of us who have received Him, He has given the power to become His children. Although this power is available, we must maximise it. We must become aware of the finished work of the Cross and exercise our rights as children of God.
A Ferrari may have the power to reach incredible speeds, but if it is never driven to its full potential, its capabilities will never be realised. In the same way, having the power to do something does not automatically mean it is being exercised. We can receive Jesus and receive the power to become God’s children, but if we do not exercise that power, we fail to live in the reality of who we are as His children.
As children of God, we must refuse to live in fear. We must refuse to allow depression to take hold. We must refuse to allow sickness and disease to take over our homes because we have received Jesus. We now have the authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy.
The work of the devil is to make us believe that God does not know us. That is a lie.
We must let the devil know that we understand who we are in Christ and that we are children of the Most High God.
Some of the benefits of being a child of God are:
1. Sure inheritance – Romans 8:17; Titus 3:7
2. Redemption – Romans 3:24
3. Authority – Luke 10:19
Declarations:
I am not in any form of bondage because I am a child of God, in Jesus’ name.
