TEXT: LUKE 9:3 NKJV
[3] And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
Discussion
The text today shows us the emphasis God placed on the task rather than on the things we might think we need for the journey. This shows that, as far as God is concerned, everything needed for the task has already been provided, and our focus should be on the task or the assignment.
Matthew 6:33 says that we should seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added to us.
We need to be very careful not to focus more on our needs than on the task God has given us.
Though the disciples took nothing for the journey, they lacked nothing needed for the task. Every action and word of Jesus during His three and a half years of earthly ministry was significant. Jesus’ message to us through that instruction was very clear: do not allow materialism to take over your mind. Nothing should come between us and His assignment.
There is no gospel such as the prosperity gospel. The gospel is the gospel, and everything about it is centred on Jesus Christ and Jesus Christ alone. Our lives and actions should be centred on the gospel of Jesus Christ. The miracles, signs, and wonders were not performed for show; they were a means of convincing people of the truth of the gospel.
It is high time we reprioritised our Christian walk and focused on what truly matters. No one who has given everything to Jesus has ever lacked what they truly needed. We must not hold anything back from Him. Jesus said, “Whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 16:25)
Jesus was not saying that we should commit suicide; rather, He was teaching that we should hold nothing back from Him. We should not prioritise anything above Him, including our own lives. This can be difficult, brethren, especially when we live in a world filled with many pressing needs. However, we have the Holy Spirit to help us, and His grace is sufficient to enable us to live according to this standard.
May the Lord help us in Jesus’ name.
Declarations:
I shall hold nothing back from the Lord in Jesus’ name. Nothing will come between me and God’s assignment for my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
