REST ON THE INSIDE

TEXT: MARK 4:37–38 KJV

[37] And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. [38] And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

 Discussions:

Our text today shows us Jesus’ reaction to a storm that the Bible describes as great. The storm was so severe that the boat was filled with water, yet Jesus was fast asleep. He appeared completely unperturbed. The disciples were surprised because it seemed as though Jesus did not care that they might perish in the storm.

How could a man sleep during such a storm? This kind of rest is not determined by the current events and circumstances. Naturally, our bodies react to what we see, but if someone responds differently from what the situation appears to demand, it means that person knows something beyond what he or she can see.

For example, no one experiences the same level of suspense when watching a movie for the second time as they did the first time because they already know what will happen. However, if a person feels the same suspense as during the first viewing, then the problem is not the movie but the person watching it.

The reason Jesus Christ was not disturbed by the storm was that He already knew about the mad man who was waiting for deliverance on the other side of the sea. He knew that this mad man would become an evangelist and is already waiting for his ordination on the other side. Jesus knew there was a divine assignment awaiting Him on the other side; therefore, no matter how violently the storm tossed the boat, no one would perish.

Brethren, if we know the will of God well enough, we will not be controlled by current situation or circumstances whether good or bad. If God has spoken to us concerning our destiny, then no matter what happens, we can be rest assured that no devil can take us out before our appointed time as long as we remain in His will.

When fear comes, it seeks to take away what we know and replace it with another kind of knowing by painting exaggerated negative images in our minds. Let’s cast the spirit of fear out quickly.

Practical Steps
1. Keep your communication line with God open through prayer.
2. Know His will through His Word.
3. Confront every spirit of fear by declaring God’s will until the devil knows that you are fully aware of God’s will.
4. If possible, sleep or laugh it out.

Declaration:

God’s thoughts toward me are of peace and not of evil; therefore, I have rest on the inside in Jesus’ name
