TEXT: II KINGS 4:2 NKJV
[2] So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
Discussions:
Happy New Month.
Today’s devotional is meant to open our eyes to the little things God has already provided for us rather than becoming distracted by other people’s great achievements.
God is speaking to someone today through a parable, encouraging you to focus on nurturing the little chicken you have rather than looking at other people’s large poultry farms. God wants us to nurture the little chicken because within that little chicken, many poultries are locked.
Today’s scripture tells the story of a widow, the wife of one of the sons of the prophets, who ran to Elisha when creditors threatened her over the debt her husband left behind. Elisha asked her, “What hast thou in the house?” and she replied that she had nothing in the house except a jar of oil, which was enough for God to prosper her.
The widow said she had nothing, yet she had a jar of oil. She also had a good relationship with her neighbours, from whom she borrowed many empty vessels. Everything she needed to become great was already within her reach. In the end, the oil multiplied, and she became a major oil distributor.
If we carefully study God’s character, we will discover that God often makes something out of nothing and brings abundance out of little. God does not want us to despise our little income, little business, little talents, little children, little salary, or little achievements. He wants us to appreciate Him for those little things and acknowledge them by nurturing them with hard work and thanksgiving. Then we can be confident that, very soon, they will become great.
There is someone reading this devotional today who will soon become so blessed with supernatural supply that you will never experience lack again.
