TEXT: MATTHEW 7:22–23 KJV
[22] Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
[23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Discussion
We shall be concluding this topic today. I believe that this topic calls for deep reflection as Christians, and we need to get rid of any form of iniquity in our lives so that we may be able to make it to heaven at the end of our journey here on earth.
Our Bible text today focuses on workers of iniquity who did not realise that they were workers of iniquity because the gift of God was still active in their lives. One thing that is very scary about God’s power and gifting is that God could still be using someone He has rejected. The fact that Saul was still on the throne did not mean that God had not abandoned him.
Many will say to the Lord on the day of judgment that they prophesied in the name of the Lord, cast out demons in His name, and did many wonderful works. Yet, the Lord will refer to them as workers of iniquity whom He never knew. The wonderful works they did for God did not grant them access to heaven. Charity work is not enough; casting out demons is not enough. This means that the Lord requires more than just the gifts. He desires that the work should be done according to His will.
For example, a person who answers a different question from the one given in an examination may provide an answer that is correct for the wrong question. However, because the person did not provide the answer to the question the examiner asked, it will still be considered a failure, no matter how correct the answer to the wrong question may be.
There are some general characteristics of the workers of God:
1. Holiness – God wants His workers to be holy as He is. – 1 Peter 1:16
2. Obedience – God wants His workers to follow His instructions. – John 10:27
3. Surrender – God wants His workers to hold nothing back from Him.
4. Faithfulness – God wants His workers to be faithful to the assignment He has placed in our hands. – 1 Corinthians 4:2
I pray that we shall be found worthy by the Lord in Jesus name.

I shall work for God in holiness and obedience. I shall hold nothing back from God, and I shall be faithful to my assignment, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
