CONTENTMENT

TEXT: 1 TIMOTHY 6:6 NKJV

[6] Now godliness with contentment is great gain.

Discussion

The Bible passage today is an admonition for us to embrace contentment. Many Christians don’t think about the things they have; instead, they look at what they do not have that others have. The secret to living a peaceful Christian life is contentment. Contentment does not mean a lack of ambition for more; rather, it is a state of satisfaction with what you have while believing God that there is much more that can be achieved with whatever you have.

The reason why we are not contented is that sometimes we compare ourselves with one another, either consciously or unconsciously. This terrible spirit called lack of contentment has sneaked even into the church, causing people to become too carried away with materialism. They find no pleasure in what they have because they are constantly focusing on what others have. This has become so bad that some people are no longer finding joy in themselves. They compare their looks, size, colour, etc., with others. We must realise that this lack of contentment is one of the tactics of the enemy to make us lose our identity in Christ.

That is why it is a good thing to remind ourselves of what the Scripture says about us. For eample you can look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself, “I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”
God is bringing this to our attention today so that we are careful not to make wrong decisions due to a lack of contentment.

Practical Steps to Deliverance from a Lack of Contentment
1. Avoid unnecessary comparison.
2. Be grateful for what you have.
3. Be patient with yourself: You are in God’s plan.
4. Know what God wants for you; that is, be in communion with God always.
5. Focus on what you have.

However, we are not allowed to be content with our desire for God. Our desire for God can never reach the point of contentment because the more you know Him, the more you realise how much you do not know about God.

Declarations:

I shall not allow lack of contentment rule my life in Jesus’ name Amen.
