TEXT: ACTS 6:2 NKJV
[2] Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.
Discussion
The devotional today focuses on our concentration on the major things. Many Christians are now majoring on the minor and minoring on the major.
We tend to focus on prosperity, charity, and other things, but we forget that Jesus came and died for the souls of everyone. We should be concerned if our best friend is not a believer. We should be concerned if our neighbours are not believers. We should be concerned about the souls of our colleagues who do not know God. If we cannot preach to them directly, we can pray privately for the salvation of their souls and then use our lives to preach the gospel of the love of Jesus Christ. Jesus does not want anyone to perish.
The apostles in today’s text were very close to being distracted by the need to serve tables because of the complaint concerning the neglected widows. However, they stood their ground and established a structure to address the need instead of abandoning their primary ministry to serve bread and fish. Just imagine if they had all left the ministry of teaching and prayer to serve the widows. The gospel might not have reached us today.
Therefore, having great lighting in church, good videos, excellent presentations, and effective outreach to the less privileged is good, but these must all be driven by a passion for the salvation of souls.
Souls must first be saved from hell and then walk daily in sanctification. We must seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these other things will be added to us not seek other things and expect the Kingdom of God to be added.
One of the ways the fire of revival dies down is when we ignore what brought about the revival in the first place. God wants us to translate our charitable deeds into winning souls for His
Kingdom, delivering people from the stronghold of hell. Anything we do in the Kingdom that does not bring people into God’s Kingdom, establish those who are already saved, or inspire believers to do more for Jesus may be good, but it has no eternal value.
For anyone reading this devotional who does not know Jesus, please say the prayer below aloud:
” Lord Jesus, thank You for dying on the cross so that I may be saved from the power of hell. I acknowledge that I am a sinner. Please forgive me of all my sins, wash me clean with the blood of Jesus, and make me whole. Help me to walk daily in Your truth and according to Your Word as I rely on Your strength. Thank You, Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.”
If you prayed this prayer, please let us know so that we can connect you with a Bible-believing church near your location. God bless you.
Declarations:
I shall not abandon my devotion to Jesus in pursuit of serving tables. Rather, my service shall always lead to the winning of souls for Jesus. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
