NEW WINE, NEW BOTTLE

TEXT: MARK 2:22 NKJV

And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; or else the new wine bursts the wineskins, the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are ruined. But new wine must be put into new wineskins.”

 Discussions:

Today’s devotional text addresses our consecration as children of God. Many born again Christians still live their old lives despite being new creations in Christ. The Scripture says, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Cor. 5:17).

Jesus said that we cannot put new wine into old wineskins; otherwise, the new wine will burst the wineskins, and the wine will be spilled. New wine should be put into new wineskins because the new wine produces gas, and the wineskins must be flexible enough to withstand the pressure. However, old wineskins are already dry, and the pressure from the wine will eventually burst them.

Being born again does not mean that pressure will not come. In fact, pressure will come because we are now new creatures, and the devil will seek to test our faith. Therefore, we must be ready and flexible enough to adjust to the new lifestyle in Jesus Christ.

We cannot be born again and still remain in our old way of life. For many of us, there are still things from our old nature, such as anger, bitterness, and unforgiveness, e.t.c. These can be the little foxes that spoil our vine, and we must be willing and flexible enough to amend our ways.

The Word of God is the standard for every believer, not the opinions of man or even the man of God. God’s Word is always available to reprove, correct, and admonish us. Therefore, we must be willing to change as God’s Word corrects and guides us daily.

Declaration:

I am a new creation in Christ. Old nature in me must die as Jesus takes over my entire life in Jesus name.
