TEXT: MALACHI 2:2, 7
[2] If you will not listen, and if you will not take it to heart to give glory to My name, says the LORD of hosts, I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Indeed, I have already cursed them, because you have not taken it to heart.
[7] For the lips of a priest should preserve knowledge, and people should seek the law from his mouth; for he is the messenger of the LORD of hosts.
Discussions:
Today’s devotional is meant to help us understand some of the characteristics of a real priest and how to connect yourself to one if God leads you. There are many priests in the world today who are not real priests. Some are called and anointed by God, while others are called by people or by themselves.
There is nothing wrong with being called by people or by oneself, because the harvest is plentiful but the labourers are few. However, it is wrong if someone is called by people or by themselves and is not ready to pay the price of the calling.
According to today’s Bible reading, there are responsibilities of a real priest in addition to holiness:
1. A priest must always give all the glory to God. A priest must never take God’s glory. Its dangerous to receive the glory that belongs to God.
2. A priest should preserve knowledge. This means a priest must not be ignorant of the Scriptures but should be well-grounded in them.
3. A priest should have truth in his or her mouth. This refers to the true gospel, free from heresy or deception of the flock.
4. A priest must walk with God in peace. That is, the priest must be at peace with God.
5. A priest must be able to answer questions relating to his or her assignment.
The role of a priest is very sensitive. Not all priests are real priests. If you know one, or if God connects you to a true priest, pray for them.
Prayer Points:
Oh Lord help all real priests. Let them not fall. Let them not fail you in Jesus’ name.
