TEXT: JEREMIAH 12:5
[5] If thou hast run with the footmen, and they have wearied thee, then how canst thou contend with horses? and if in the land of peace, wherein thou trustedst, they wearied thee, then how wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan?
Discussion
Today’s devotional is to fire us up for the assignment God has called us to. Our Bible text today says, “If you have run with the footmen and they have wearied you, then how can you contend with horses?” This is a very powerful statement to wake us up from any kind of weariness and slumber. There are many grounds to cover; we cannot afford to give up or withdraw now.
This reminds me of David in the wilderness. If David had become weary while facing the lion and the bear in the wilderness, how much more would he have struggled when facing Goliath and the attacks of Saul?
We need to conclude in our minds that the testimony of today is the training and preparation needed for the victory of tomorrow.
God is saying to us today that the battles we are facing should not make us weary; instead, they should make us stronger and prepare us to face the greater battles of tomorrow.
Have you ever wondered why many of the things we pray about today are as of the result of prayers God answered yesterday? For example, when we pray for God to provide us with a job, we should remember that God has already answered our prayers for sound health! It is high time we came up to a higher realm where we see things and challenges as stepping stones to greater heights, knowing that God is on our side.
There are situations that can be very challenging and serious, but God is asking us to come higher and not allow those situations to make us faint.
Also, the text is explaining that there are different levels of faith and we cannot afford to fail to reach the level expected of us. Life is an examination; we must pass one stage to get to the next.
God has an expectation for us. If we are to contend with horses yet are struggling to contend with footmen, then we are performing below God’s expectations.
Our Bible study each day should be getting better. Our prayer life should also be getting better each day. The reason is that when challenges come our way, the fasting we undertake, the prayers we pray, and the Word of God are important in keeping us standing.
As you stand on God’s promises, you shall see God step in, and you shall surely have a testimony.
Declarations:
I shall not be weary. I receive the grace to mount up with wings like eagles, in Jesus’ name. Amen
