HOUR OF PRAYER

TEXT: ACTS 3:1 NKJV

[1] Now Peter and John went up together to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

Discussion

Today’s devotional focuses on having a consistent and effective prayer altar. The hour of prayer is a time dedicated to praying to God. Many believers do not have a dedicated personal prayer time. Having a set time of prayer every day is a good practice for every believer.

Today’s Bible text tells the story of Peter and John on their way to the temple at the hour of prayer. Along the way, they met a lame man at the gate of the temple, whom they healed. What if they had not gone to pray at that appointed time? They might have missed the opportunity to be used by God for his miracle. There are many miracles that have been missed in the realm of the Spirit because people have not been faithful in prayer.
The Bible says that men ought always to pray and not lose heart. This simply means that we must always remain in the posture of prayer.

However, we should also have a dedicated period within our 24-hour day set aside specifically for prayer. During that time, God can reveal what He has in store for us and make known His agenda for that moment. The time of prayer may vary depending on one’s schedule, but the best time to pray is when we are least distracted.

Some Bible scholars have suggested that it is beneficial to give God a tithe of our 24-hour day—that is, dedicating 2 hours 24 minutes daily to prayer and to knowing God’s mind through the study of His Word. I agree with this principle. Although it may be practically challenging, we can always ask God for the grace to do so if we genuinely desire it.

May the Lord help us as we dedicate time to Him, in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Declarations:

I shall pray without ceasing, in Jesus’ name, and I shall maintain a dedicated daily hour of prayer. I receive the grace to live a structured and consistent prayer life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
