SPIRITUAL WARFARE VII: OBEDIENCE AS A WEAPON

SPIRITUAL WARFARE VII: OBEDIENCE AS A WEAPON

 TEXT: JUDGES 7:2, 4

[2] And the Lord said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’

[4] But the Lord said to Gideon, “The people are still too many; bring them down to the water, and I will test them for you there. Then it will be, that of whom I say to you, ‘This one shall go with you,’ the same shall go with you; and of whomever I say to you, ‘This one shall not go with you,’ the same shall not go.”

 Discussions:

Today’s scripture tells a story about an army commander called Gideon who wanted to go to battle with the Midianites. Gideon, as a normal human being, would think that the more the numbers, the higher the chances of winning, but God’s strategy for the battle was different. God’s strategy was totally opposite. God spoke to Gideon to reduce the number twice and he obeyed. The numbers of army was reduced from 22,000 to 300 i.e 99.06% reduction. God only needed less than 1% to do the job.

Many times we face difficulties in battles of life that we could have won cheaply because we simple did not obey the Lord. We need to rely on the Holy Spirit for instructions before, during and after battles. The most important thing to note about obedience is that it is ongoing, not a one-off. God spoke to Gideon to reduce the army two different times which was against common sense, but he obeyed. God’s instruction may make no sense or seem meaningless, but victory lies in obedience.
Some Christians don’t have issues obeying God, but the issue is knowing if it is God speaking. Let me say at this point that God speaks to us based on our level of relationship and understanding. For example, a teacher can’t give instructions to a university undergraduate the same way as a nursery school child still in nursery. If he does, then don’t blame the child in nursery for not following instruction. God is too loving to speak to us in a way to confuse us. Satan does that a lot.
The practical step is to start building our relationship with God through prayers, worship, humility and studying His word consistently and gradually God’s instructions become clearer to us.
I shall hear your testimony in Jesus name

Declaration:

I shall not miss Gods instructions in Jesus name. I receive the grace to do whatever He asks me to do in Jesus name.
